Among the requirements is a 45-minute written test about British traditions and customs. 3 Although the duchess would have had to wait three years after their marriage before she could even apply for indefinite leave to remain – a precursor to citizenship – Meghan has revealed that 0 – 3 BAFFLEDratlos — citizenship test Einbürgerungstest (c. She eventually abandoned her bid to become a British citizen after she and her husband left the country in March 2020, less than two years after their wedding. The couple now live in California with their children Archie, three, and Lilibet, one. 4 In the latest episode of her Spotify podcast ‘Archetypes’ – with guests including Sophie Trudeau, wife of the Canadian prime minister, Justin Trudeau – Meghan said: “That citizenship exam is so hard. I was studying for it, and I remember going, ‘Oh my goodness.’” Talking to the American actress Pamela Adlon, who recently became a British citizen, the duchess added: “I would ask my husband, ‘Did you know this? Did you know this?’ And he went ‘Huh? I had no idea.’” solution Meghan Markle and Prince Harry at the Invictus Games in April 2022. | Photo: Getty Images/Max Mumby 5 The Sussexes’ move abroad effectively ended any efforts the duchess was making to show a strong commitment to the UK.
